Research shows that coeliac disease affects 1 in 100 people in the UK and 1 in 70 Australians. Nevertheless, it is thought that 500,000 people in the UK alone are yet to be diagnosed, underdiagnosis is a big problem but recent years have seen an increase in diagnosis rates owing to the improved awareness of the condition.
Although Coeliac is most common in Europe and North America it still affects all ethnic groups and is common southern Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and South America.
